A close friend quipped, that it’s a ‘One Bed Room’ apartment that you have bought! This was right after we acquired our Mahindra Scorpio, in 2004. Vijayant Kohli was still young and declared that we should have used this money elsewhere. After all we were living in a 880 sq feet Noida Authority flat in Sec 62, next to a super-large slum township, Khora. Newly married (and barely getting over a rather close shave with our darling WagonR that eventually got a new body shell), it made more sense to put the money at the right places. You need to ignore the good advice from your loving friends and that is what we did.
It was Feb 15, 2004. We were at Jaipur, attending the wedding of close friend Avinash. Smita returned the very next morning and I stayed on till noon. The plan was to return home next evening along with Manish Syal and Manish Shekhawat, with a stopover at Nahargarh. Mahindra was dilly-dallying the delivery and it was hard to talk to either the folks at the Mahindra Dealership or anyone else at Mahindra but we knew that its is a good machine and we should not get disheartneded. On Feb 16, 2004 I got a call from Mahindra that my vehicle is ready and I can get the delivery today. Jaipur was a quick 5 hour away and NH8 was indeed a highway. Manesar at that time was like a regular far-away suburb and one could drive north of 100 KMPH easily.
Smita reached from her office, which was in Safdurjung Enclave. I withdrew the balance money (Yes, in 2004, you paid only when you get the car) and after the regular paperwork, we got our car. It was indeed a big car and neither Smita nor me, had any experience of driving this size, ever.
We were driving a Maruti WagonR during that time. My memory of the first drive was that it was pretty wide and I was driving on instinct all through. With great care, we drove the baby home with a halt at Noida Sec 16A where Deepender used to work. We parked it cautiously and slept well.
For the next 9+ years, Scorpio went far and wide and here is my humble attempt at capturing those trips. I have tired to identify pictures from those trips and would add some basic info. Hopefully 10 years down the line, reading this would kindle all these beautiful memories again.
Trip No. 1
When – March 2004
Where – Rajaji National Park, Haridwar, Uttrakhand
Who – Jogi and Mili, Henry and Rahul, Dhall and Jha
We stayed at a worn-out government guesthouse and had a great time. If you want to read more, here is a hurried log I wrote many moons back at Ghumakkar.
Trip No. 2
When – March 2004
Where – Chail, Himachal Pradesh
Who – Rishu, Raja and Shagun, Henry, Dhall and Jha
We stayed at Rashi Resorts (we had stayed there in the past as well). On the way back, we drove on a new road rather than taking the Chail-Kandaghat road, which was still in the making. There was simply no one on that road. We must have been crazy and stupid to do that.
Trip No. 3
When – May 2004
Where- Doon and Chamba, Uttrakhand
Who – Mili and Jogi, Henry and Vijyant, Shaguna, Dhall and Jha
This was the first time, we got stuck in quick sand and rubble. This is the only time we were stuck. Or may be, in later years I could find ways to get the vehicle out. It was quite a creative effort back then.
Tip – If your car’s tyre are stuck in loose-sand then get the foot-mat out and put it under the wheel. Or get some pebbles and put those under the wheel. The idea is to build some friction. If nothing works, then take some air out.
Trip No. 4
When – May 2004
Where – Nainital, Uttrakhand
Who – Madhu and Ram Dhall, Henry, Dhall and Jha
We stayed at a guest house which Ram secured for us. It was at ‘Long View’, just a climb away from Tallital. Brilliant location. From there we did a day outing to the Sat tal camp.
Trip No. 5
When – July 2004
Where – Chakrata, Uttrakhand
Who – Geetha and Sarva, Vijyant Kohli, Dhall and Jha
We stayed at ‘Hotel Snow View’ or something like that. More details in this hurried log here.
Trip No. 6
When – Oct 2004
Where – Shoghi, Himachal Pradesh
Who – Vijyant and Henry, Dhall and Jha
We had barely discovered that Pihu was on the way. After this trip, we didn’t do any road trips till August 2005.
Trip No. 7
When – August 2005
Where – Doon, Uttrakhand
Who – Shagun, Pihu, Dhall and Jha
Pihu’s first trip. She was 2+ months. It was raining cats and dogs and the farmhouse which Vijayant jugado-ed (Indian word for ‘fixed’) was just not the place. Vijayant’s elder brother Vikram along with his wife Parul and two sons were also there. We someone managed to pass the night. Next morning, we almost ran back while Vijayant moved to Mussorrie. I still remember the mutton-rice we had once we were back at our Noida home.
Trip No. 8
When – Aug 2005
Where – Subathu, Himachal Pradesh
Who – Madhu and Ram Dhall, Shagun, Dhall and Jha
This was a bungalow, Ram’s relatives. Beautiful place. We had a blast. We had been there before as well.
Trip No. 9
When – October 2005
Where – Amritsar, Punjab
Who – Madhu and Ram Dhall, Dhall and Jha and Pihu
This was the first 500 KM trip. Everything before this was sub-300. A one night trip. I want to go to Amritsar again but it has been so long and could never make a plan.
Trip No. 10
When – Jan 2006
Where – Agra, Uttar Pradesh
Who – Mili and Jogi and Adi, Shaguna and Adi, Dhall and Jha and Pihu
This was not a good trip. Smita was feeling feverish. By the evening she was down. By the next morning I was down. It was a big car for any of the others to drive. Finally, Adi drove till Mathura. Vijayant and Sunil (Ram’s driver) came from Delhi and fetched us back. Not good memories.
Trip No. 11
When – June 2006
Where – Jaipur, Rajashthan
Who – Manish Syal and Jha
Just the two of us. I picked Syal from his office in Gurgaon after leaving early from my office. Reached Jaipur in the evening. Pulled over and changed to formal, right on the road, behind our car and joined the Barat dancing. After some time, I walked back and then took the car and went to Baraat Ghar. We stayed over for the night, surviving the old government guest house in the ‘Khasa Kothi’ complex. Came the next afternoon, after bringing the newly wed home.
Trip No. 12
When – Aug 2006
Where – Manali
Who – Reena and Vijayant, Pihu, Dhall and Jha
It was longer than Amritsar. Vijayant also drove some distance. Deepender, Preeti, Cheenu and Hershall came along in their Toyota Corolla. The stay was in a camp and in rainy season, things does get damp. For some of us, it was a new experience. All went well in the end.
Trip No. 13
When – October 2006
Where – Bhimtal, Uttrakhand
Who – Shagun, Aditya, Pihu, Jha and Dhall
We had taken a time-share with ‘Royal Goan Club’. One of Ram’s friend was gracious enough to gift us a long stay at one of ‘RGC’s’ premium property. We got trapped in the usual trick and bought membership. After a lot of struggle, we managed to get a 2 night stay in an affiliated property at Bhimtal. It was to be at ‘The Mountain Trail’ or something like that. The placed looked good. After the customary welcome drink, we were told that they have arranged for our stay at another place called ‘Shikha Inn – Resort’ and when we went to Shikha Inn, we could see through their plan. While ‘The Mountain Trail’ looked like a property worth affiliating with ‘Royal Goan Club’, ‘Shikha Inn’ was this basic humble setup. There was no match. RGC managed to cheat us again :-). I feel so bad writing after so many years that we continued to be getting cheated year after year before we decided to let go of our hard earned money. They did charge us a bomb promising 25 years of time-share and what not. Anyway, we moved to 7-tal, a friend’s place. The later by evening, we moved to ‘Country Inn’ via RGC and it was a decent place. All in all, a fairly demanding trip. God bless RGC.
Trip No .14
When – January 2007
Where – Mussorrie, Uttrakhand
Who – Harhsall, Deepnder and Preeti, Revathi and Rahul, Pihu, Jha and Dhall
To the queen of hills. We stayed at ‘Park Plaza’ and had a great time. We met our friend Vijayant Kohli there who managed to get the high spirits in ‘The Tavern’ even on Jan 26. The highlight of the trip was to meet and interact with ‘Ruskin Bond’.
Trip No. 15
When – Feb 2007
Where – Mandawa, Rajasthan
Who – 3 Sehajpals, Revathi and Rahul, 3 Duas, 2 Jhas and one Dhall
We stayed at ‘Castle Mandawa’. Brilliant stay. This was where Ghumakkar was conceived by Deepender and Jha. We called it ‘Journeytor’. At that time, there was nothing on internet in terms of personal travel experience barring very few personal blogs.
Trip No. 16
When – March/April 2007
Where – Sariska, Rajasthan
Who – Sourabh, Saurabh, VJ, Vibha, Vaishali, Ankur, Sachin, Jha, Ashish (not in pic)
Office gang. Two cars. Single day, from early morning to late night. Great trip. It was ‘Mahaveer Jayanti’ so no bubbly at RTDC place. I guess this is the only thing I clearly remember. Of course, no tigers.
Trip No. 17
When – April 2007
Where – Chamba, Uttrakhand
Who – Vij and Reena, Durga and Preethi, Pihu, Dhall and Jha
Stayed at ‘The Classic’. Nothing much to do then to just laze around. In later years, we decide to be more prudent since money and time , both were in short supply (well, would always be) and we should travel more and vacation less , to newer places.
Trip No. 18
When – July 2007
Where – Naukuchia Tal, Uttrakhand
Who – Dhall and Jha
There were more people in other cars. ‘Firdaus’ was born. We recc-ed the land and instantly liked it. A little away from the main road, overlooking the lake.
Trip No. 19
When – September 2007
Where – Corbett Tiger Reserve, Uttrakhand
Who – Pihu, Dhall and Jha
We stayed at Marchula, away from the main Corbett park.
Trip No. 20
When – October 2007
Where – Nainital
Who – Dhall and Jha
For Naukuchia land registration. Nainital was heavenly in October. Cold, Quiet and much lesser crowds.
Trip No. 21
When – November 2007
Where – Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh
Who – A lot of us
Office trip. Stay was at ‘Timber Trail Resort’. Beautiful place but it was chilly in the evening. Also got hauled up in ‘Kalka Market’ by police-guys for wrong overtaking. There was no ‘Himalayan Expressway’ then and one had to go via busy Kalka town for Shimla and beyond. I still vividly remember the few pottery shops displaying the colourful artefacts as you make your way through the busy market.
Trip No. 22
When – December 2007
Where – Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Rajasthan
Who – 3 Sehajpals , Pihu, Dhall and Jha
This was our first real real long distance trip. Delhi-Jaisalmer in a day drive. Cabin atmosphere was at its best with Deependra as co-driver. From Jaisalmer, we did the long drive to Jodhpur and then from Jodhpur to back home in a single stretch.
@ Deepender – Let’s do 10 day road trip this winters. May be towards East or may be Gujarat (in time before Modi becomes PM)
Trip No. 23
When – March 2008
Where – Jaipur and Sambhar Lake, Rajasthan
Who – Dhall and Jha
Just the two of us. nth trip to Jaipur for both of us. This time, we made good use of it by visiting Sambhar. Interesting experience, read it here.
Trip No. 24
When – May 2008
Where – Dudhwa National Park, Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh
Who – Pihu, Dhall and Jha
This was different. Driving through the hinterlands of UP. Finally reaching Dudhwa and not staying there. Dudhwa is on the border and because of rains, the Safari was not looking possible. The forest rest house didn’t seem luxurious enough so after 3 odd hours of dilly-dallying we headed back. We had work in the town for the first day and liked Lakhimpur Kheri.
Trip No. 25
When – May 2008
Where – Dehradoon and Dhanualti, Uttrakhand
Who – Pihu, Dhall and Jha
One night at Doon and 2nd night at Dhanulti which got messed up because of ‘Wanderlust’. We also never got any money from then which we had paid in advance. It was heavenly at Dhanaulti, calm and not crowded. I still remember the hard time in manoeuvring Scorpio since the power-steering was not working during this trip.
Trip No. 26
When – June 2008
Where – Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh
Who – Dhall, Jha and Sumedha
Played cabbie to Sumedha. She had a performance at Moradabad Numaish. It is a very big fair with a lot of cultural programs and what not. We stayed at Omsons (now part of some big chain) and I liked the attention we got from everywhere.
Trip No. 27
When – June 2008
Where – Darbhanga (Bihar) via Allahabad, Varanasi. Return via Gorakhpur
Who – Pihu, Dhall and Jha on the way up. Sis and Shipra as well on the way down.
This was a long ride. There was no Expressway but we could do Delhi-Allahabad in 11 hours. Stayed a night at Allahabad, couple of nights at Varanasi. Then direct to Darbhanga. On the way back, we stayed one night at Gorakhpur and then drove straight back to Delhi. A very, very long drive. Not recommended. Remember the endurance pangs in the last leg i.e. Moradabad-Delhi. Want to do another drive home sometime this year.
Trip No. 28
When – October 2008
Where – Corbett Tiger Reseve, Uttrakhand
Who – Jha
First (and the only) solo drive which is more than 250 kilometres. :-).
Trip No. 29
When – December 2008
Where – Khajuraho , Panna and Gwalior (MP)
Who – The Sehajpals and us
Repeat of 2007. Same cabin crew. Delhi-Khajuraho in a single stretch. Khajuraho was not on Indian Railways map at that time. The rail-line was done and Laloo Prasad was visiting during the same time to inaugurate it. Khaujraho was brilliant, we went there, all by driving.
Trip No. 30
When – Jan 2009
Where – Surajgarh Palace, Rajasthan
Who – Office Gang
A cool one night trip at an old haveli in Rajasthan. Relaxed and rich with camel-cart trips to local Baoli.
Trip No. 31
When – Januray 2009
Where – Kausani and Ranikhet, Uttrakhand
Who – Shaguna, Aditya, Shipra and Us
Long drive. MapMyIndia GPS showed a shorter connection from ahead of Khurpa Tal to someplace , avoiding Nainital. We followed the road which was not there. Great time.
Trip No. 32
When – Feb 2009
Where – Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan
Who – Sehajpals, Duas, Us
This was our 1st trip with a good deal with ‘Pugmarks’, which otherwise was very expensive. And we saw Tiger. Yeye. On the way back, we tried a different route and it worked wonderfully. The route post gets a lot of hits.
Trip No. 33
When – April 2009
Where – Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh
Who – US and more people in other cars
Viveck Tiwari’s wedding. Big occasion. Vijayant was there. Good fun.
Trip No – 34
When – May 2009
Where – Nauchandi, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh
Who – Rumjhum, Swapnil, US
Short trip but interesting one. My only trip to Nauchandi ka Mela.
Though the ‘Theory of Now’ was already established but after this trip, I got more followers. The ‘Theory of Now’ says that if you are planning something to do and if you can do it now, go ahead and do it. Putting it off for a different day would not work because something or the other would come up. So if you are planning to catch up on drinks with someone tonight and if both of you are free then go ahead and do it, waiting for another occasion is not allowed under ‘Theory of Now’ 🙂
Trip No. 35
When – May 2009
Where – Chomu Palace, Rajasthan
Who – Three of us, Shipra
Simple easy trip. Stayed at Chomu Palace.
Trip No. 36
When – June 2009
Where – Lahaul Spiti, Kunzum, Manali – Himachal Pradesh
Who – Pihu, Dhall and Jha
This trip was a big one. 9 nights, all in high lands of Himalayas. We drove through thick slush, roads shouldered by ice walls at Kunzum, survived snow blizzard and what not. Read my stories for Kaza – Manali here. It was not a good idea to go for this trip just by three of us. Someday I want to do Delhi-Kaza-Keylong-Leh-Srinagar-Delhi. May be at least one month long trip.
I am probably missing some trip here, because between June and December there is no road trip, doesn’t look right. We did one trip to Jaipur in our other car. Nothing else shows up in my photo gallery. Hmm…
Trip No. 37
When – December 2009
Where – Shivpuri, Chanderi, Mandu, Chittor (MP and Rajasthan)
Who – US and Amit Gupta, Ram Prasad
This was a great trip. 6 odd nights. We covered quite a bit of MP, stayed at a lavish place close to Dhar. Day trips to Maheshwar. Chanderi was brilliant.
Trip No. 38
When – May 2010
Where – Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh
Who – Sehajpals, Shaguna/Aditya, Duas all in different cars though
Except the very urbanish hotel, everything else was pretty good. Pihu fell sick and I drove through that 2Km short route to Dharamshala from Mcleod for some medicines.
Trip No. 39
When – June 2010
Where – Kasol, Himachal Pradesh
Who – Just us
Long drive. We went very close to Malana after driving on no-roads and then trekking up but because of bad weather and small kid, we returned. We did get the cream though via someone else.
Trip No. 40
When – September 2010
Where – Rishikesh, Uttrakhand
Who – Swapnil , Rumjhum, Shailendra, Damyanti, Abhishek and Us. Different cars though.
Swapnil found this god forsaken place which looked heavenly in pictures. Well the location was out of the world but they didn’t have any one to serve. Nonetheless we made the most of drive and trip. The cabin crew made up for it.
Trip No. 41
When – November 2010
Where – Jaipur, Rajasthan
Who – US, Sis and Shipra
Shopping, what else. And Chokhi Dhani. Good family trip.
Trip No. 42
When – November 2010
Where – Pushkar, Rajasthan
Who – Us, Abhishek
Few hours at cattle fair and the balloon fair. Returned the same night to Jaipur. Not very enthused and excited with Pushkar.
]
Trip No. 43
When – December 2010
Where – Khajuraho, Bandhavgarh, Gwalior , Madhya Pradesh
Who – Srijesh Nair and family, Us, different cars
Year end road trip. Srijesh agreed to come along. One Scorpio and One Safari, and we started eating miles like anything. Khajuraho was good. Drive to Bandhav was brilliant. Bandhavgarh jungle was super brilliant and after two days there, all of us started to get fatigued with the thought of driving back to Delhi. 🙂 Finally we did it.
Trip No. 44
When – January 2011
Where – Bharatpur, Rajasthan
Who – All Dhalls, Adi, Jha and kids
Complete family trip. First trip to Bharatpur for all of us. It is so near to Delhi but for some reason Smita never agreed on doing a visit. We all liked it. Kuhu also got a good hair-cut from Smita.
Trip No. 45 to Naukuchia
Trip No. 46
When – March 2011
Where – Naukuchia, Uttrakhand
Who – Just Us
Firdaus Bhoomi Pujan,
Trip No 47,48, 49 to Naukuchia. May be more but I am just adding two.
Trip No. 50
When – May 2011
Where – Abott Mount, Chakori, Munsyari, Binsar, Sattal – Uttrakhand
Who – Golu, Avidha, Tintin, Dhall, Pihu and Jha
We were crazy to attempt it during Monsoons. Finally when we reached Munsyari, our local friendly contact was so surprised and we returned the very next day. It was a long 7 nights kind of trip with Golu and Avidha. We did a similar Konkan Trip in their car in 2012 and it was heavenly. Now 2013 is there, so we should do something together again.
Trip No 51,52 and 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59 to Naukuchia. This happened from July to April 2013. My guess is that we would have done more. Thrice, we returned same day. All this took some toll on the car (and probably on our body as well).
Trip No – 60
When – April 2012
Where – Firdaus, Naukuchia, Uttrakhand
Who – Madhu and Ram Dhall, Us
Grih Pravesh time. It was humbling to see the whole thing there. 15+ trips and we made it. Yeye. Post Grih Pravesh, the number of trips increased because now we had a place to stay.
Between April and October, we would have done about 8 trips.
Trip No – 61,62,63,64,65,66, 67,68 – at Firdaus
Trip No. 69
When – October 2012
Where – Haridwar, Uttrakhand
Who – Ram, Rajeev, Devinder, Jha
For Smita’s grand ma’s sharadh.
Trip No. 70
When – December 2012
Where – Bharatpur, Rajasthan
Who – Office Gang
First time on swanky Yamuna Expresway. It is indeed world-class. Had a terrible incident at Sikri on the way back. And the decision is not go that side anytime soon.
In 2013, we made few more trips to Firdaus in Scorpio. Probably three more. In April, we let Scorpio go.
All in all, it did close 140K of running. Fabulous.
In June 2013, we got our new car, another Mahindra. A white XUV. It is getting emotional now so I would call quits. The show must go on, on to many more miles.
I am truly short of words… INSPIRING, I would say !
Great post. Very nicely captured. I can relate to your emotions :-). Always wanted to do the same for 8797 (Esteem) which took us (me and Shagun) to Goa and many more places, but could not do it. Glad to see your effort 🙂 for 4401.
Rightly said that show must go on with many more miles. Bravo!
one of a kind travel diary!!! by one of a kind gentleman – kudos – cheers to the spirit. Im happy to see the journeytor.com ideation story!!!
Memories…!
You have missed a few. One in Sept’07 to Jaipur that I did with Mom, Shagun and Pihu. Once we went to Pataudi (umm.. would that count?).
Anyway it doesn’t matter, thanks for chronicling most of it. It is a great tribute to our car that was so close to our heart. It never felt like a machine, it was always a person to us and how I would burn with anger if anyone said anything about it!
Btw, Pihu @ Wagah, she looks much older than the 4 month old she is! All the pictures are very cute, have most of the people who’ve meant so much and were once thin!
Thanks Jha!
There was another Jaipur trip, i think Pihu’s 2nd one and she was ard 6 months old. We were fined just after entering Jaipur as I was not wearing seat belt. Adi was not on the trip, but reminded me of this one 🙂
🙂 thank you guys. I would be emailing the link to some of the folks who may not have seen the facebook post, so that they can see their young faces in these pics. hehe. jai hind.
And most importantly – We did go to Jaipur on Feb13/14. Avinash got married on the 15th and we got the car on Feb 16, 2004. Change the dates.
Had it been two days earlier, with Chhotu Band, this perhaps could be another feature repeated in Guptas weddings 🙂
Lol! Yes, yes!!
Your Mahindra Scorpio is like an quiet old mariner who has traveled a lot and seen all the places but don’t have words to express
70 trips with muscular Scorpio, amazing dude.
I think now its time for you to hit the roads of Southern Parts of India.
Met your best friend (Scorpio) while our first visit at Haldiram – Noida.
Che’s Motorcycle Diaries;
Jha’s Scorpio Diaries.
Ek raasta hai zindagi… jo tham gaye to kuch nahin…
Yeh kadam kisi mukam pe… jo ruk gaye to kuch nahin…
There was also this one trip somewhere in March’05 to Corbett with Vijayant and Sanjeev where we had a flat tyre somewhere between Kashipur and Moradabad and you and Sanjeev took the tyre out and lugged to the nearby village because even the spare-tyre didn’t have air!
Wow! Very well-compiled Nandan! A well-deserved salute to THE Scorpio!
Wow Jha…suddely I went back to 2004 with wonderful memories and then I see missing in action from 2006…you have indeed preserved a priceless treasure…THANK YOU 🙂
Oh well. I’ll admit, I didn’t read through every word. I looked at pictures primarily with some cursory reading. However, what really caught my attention was the ‘When’.
I knew you, Smita and Pihu are the biggest ghumakkars but boy, a trip every alternate month if not more frequent… that’s like phewww! Pihu started right after getting on this earth. Thankfully, you didn’t take her around while she was still curled up comfortably in her mom’s tummy.
Looks like, the current looks started appearing in 2010. Before that, everyone looked so different (barring may be Vijayant who might still look the same).
good one
you shd write more frequently, it’s always refreshing to read whatever you write. hoping to see a midnight children coming out some day.
you haven’t met Vijayant for long time, right 🙂
Actually barring perhaps Shagun, everyone’s spreaded a few inches horizontally 🙂
@ VJ – Thank you. Be around.
@ Adi – Thank you. Now when you mention this, I am remembering the numerous trips we did in our Wagon R. Not as many as Scorpio but there must be sat least 6-8 drives to Corbett Tiger Reserve. For the new one, I would try to click one pic with the car in frame as well. 🙂
@ Deeps – Thank you. Been a while we met. Diwali aanay waali hai, patte khelte hain.
@ Dhall – Yes. And probably one or two more (may be 7tal).
@ Sumer – WoW,. You are a poet man.
@ Gerry – Yeah. With Scorpio, I went as far as Indore (in central), Darbhanga (east), Jaisalmer (west) and Kaza (north). Now time to break this barrier and do a down-south. Amen.
@ Mahesh – Yes Sir. Thank you for reading and for your comment. 🙂
@ Neeraj – Kahan hain aap aajkal. long time.
@ Vibha – Yeah, took a while to collect the pics and all that. It came out ok in the end, hehe.
@ Jogi – Joginder, when you are in India next, lets plan at least a two day short affair.
@ Avinash – These are just the Scorpio trips. :-). There were more via other modes. If we count business trips then it would cross 100 easily. Need to do more (both traveling and writing). Ghumakkar is giving me a lot of reading and writing (monthly interviews, comments, mails hehe) practice. I am waiting for my 10,000 hrs.
That’s a great summary…memories, memories and more memories…and the journey continues with XUV! I guess, your biggest dilemma would be in finding destinations, not sure you’ve left any with the Scorpio! 🙂
And BTW, thanks for all the rides…hoping for many more! 😀
Incredible journey…brilliantly sum it up.
So many memories with family, friends…a good feeling for everyone.
wishing you to travel more with your new car
and I really like your ‘Theory of now’ concept…and your house looks so beautiful
Amitava
@shaguna – Thanks. I started this compilations as an ode, never expected that this would mean so much for many of us.hehe.
@ Amitava -Thank you for dropping by and for your comment. The house is up for guests like you, anytime, just a call/email away. Plan a trip.
To chronicle so many trips is a feat in itself!! Amazing work and yes we still believe in the “Theory of Now” and go by it whenever forced to take decisions!
Thanks Nandan for bringing this storehouse of fond memories over the years. It also brought back the memories of some wonderful times we had together with adorable people like Vijayant, Deepender, Jogi and Tiwari. May God bless you all.
Have a great time with the new XUV.
@ RJ – Yes it took a while to compile this. Thanks.
@ Ram – Thank you.
I have a wagonR right now . hopefully a mahindra calling for me too .!haha..
jokes apart,Very Very Inspiring indeed !
Hey Nandan .. Am speechless with the travels you have completed and the passion in capturing the minute details which makes it such an incredible story . I love to travel but don’t get too many chances, anyways after viewing this site I am motivated to have a similar collection of stories and start travelling more often . I loved every pic n story . this is awesome ! Wishing you many more miles to go..and stories to share !
@Aayushman – Insha Allah.
@ Aishwarya – Thank you. Wishing you happiness and a lot of travel.
Nice reading your travel log.
Just wanted to check on the repair work you have done on the clutch, suspension, gearbox etc on the Scorpio over the years. How many kms has your Scorpio done so far?
WOW.. Very Very Inspiring
Hi Vishu – Thanks for stopping by and reading.
I have not kept a good log but net net, the car was maintenance free for first 5 odd years. In its later years, Clutch Plate was changed once (10K), suspension didn’t need a change though the workshop folk recommended it a few times, a/c overhaul was 10K plus, locks got changed twice (4K , twice), diesel pump leak meant a thorough repair and fix (15K odd). In general, the car went pretty well for first 5-6 years.
In last couple of years, I have also not taken a super care and we have been taking it out much more often. It is no more with us. We did close to 140K miles.
Hope this is helpful.
Using a 2003 model scorpio clocked 130000 kms still feels good .. and being a luckiest car protecting us for any long drives
Good job done Sir, and of course all the credit goes to Mahindra Scorpio for safely and easily covering all the desired destinations…
